Custom domain for your website

The custom domain field takes a domain you bought yourself. Add one CNAME at your registrar pointing to sites.gtokentool.com, and the site opens on your domain once DNS resolves.

A published site starts out on a platform subdomain (your-prefix.gtokensite.com) that you can share with your community right away. Moving it to your own domain is two separate jobs: you buy the domain, and you add the record. The platform does not buy domains for you and never touches your DNS. A domain is not on-chain — it is one DNS record pointing at our entry point, so filling it into the site settings does nothing until that record resolves.

Tip · Order of operations

Buy the domain and add the record first, then fill it into the site settings. You can save it the other way round, but nothing opens until DNS resolves — and during that gap you will assume the binding is broken.

  1. Register a domain with any registrarNamecheap, Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud — any of them works. We are not part of the purchase and do not ask you to move to a specific provider. The only requirement is that you can open that domain’s DNS settings page (some providers call it Manage DNS).
  2. Find the DNS records page for that domainSign in where you bought the domain, open your domain list, select the domain and open its DNS settings. Providers name it differently, so just find the page with the Add record button.
  3. Add a CNAME recordSet the type to CNAME, the host (Name) to www and the value to sites.gtokentool.com, and leave TTL at default. Enter www only — most providers append the domain for you, so www.yourdomain.com turns into www.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com.
  4. Wait for the record to resolveUsually within 10 minutes; a freshly registered domain, or one whose nameservers just changed, can take about an hour. The direct check: open www.yourdomain.com in a browser — if the site you just published loads, it is live.
  5. Fill the domain into the site settings and publish againOpen this website’s console → Publish card → Custom domain (optional) → enter www.yourdomain.com → Save draft or Publish. Visits to that domain then land on your site, and the platform subdomain keeps working alongside it.

Careful · A root domain cannot take a CNAME

Under DNS rules a root domain like yourproject.com cannot hold a CNAME, so www.yourproject.com is the easy path. If you must use the root, you need ALIAS / ANAME records from your DNS provider, or nameservers that support CNAME flattening (Cloudflare does).

  • The site field takes www.yourdomain.com only — no https:// and no path after it. Either one stops it resolving.
  • One record per host name: delete the existing A record or old CNAME on www first, or they conflict.
  • Moved your nameservers (to Cloudflare, for example)? Edit the records at whichever provider hosts DNS now — changes at the old one have no effect.
  • Still not loading after an hour: confirm the CNAME saved and the host name is right, then send us the domain and we will look into it.
